What were you doing before you joined the MRC DTP scheme?

Working for an NGO.

Why did you choose your primary institution (LSHTM or SGUL)?

LSHTM for the expertise in neglected tropical diseases, specifically trypanosome biology.

What do you enjoy most about your day-to-day work and the people you work with?

The amount of learning and self-improvement, and the collectiveness of research.

What do you value most about the MRC DTP studentship?

The opportunity to access a variety of expertise within the institutions.

What additional training have you attended with MRC DTP money?

I have attended a course on computational analysis for bio imaging of fluorescent cells.

Do you have any tips for future MRC DTP scholarship applicants?

If a project of interest requires learning a lot of new skills then before applying to a particular lab/academic group, it will likely be very useful to investigate their capacity for teaching those skills eg. are there postdocs available to support learning.
